Groper Creek

August 12th, 2004

Hello Everyone, we have just spent an enjoyable month at a small caravan park at Groper Creek, about 16 km east of a town called Home Hill on the central Queensland coast. Groper Creek is an estuary & part of the Burdekin river delta that runs into the Coral sea, the park is owned by the Home Hill boat club and while it is very basic it does have 2 good boat launching ramps with a large jetty between however thay can be effected by the tide. The area offers reasonable fishing ( during normal rainfall seasons ) and good crabbing, during our stay we managed about 15 muddies over a 5 day week and a few fish so we lived well !

During our stay we had the pleasure of meeting a number of very nice people, all retired and all spending most of their time in their caravan. We have now used our new vehicle, caravan, boat etc long enough to be able to say that everything is working out very well, the van is a much better layout than the last one, it is much easier to live in and is much better finished ( no problems so far - fingers crossed !) The boat is excellent for what we want to do, we have had a full floor fitted ( alloy chequer plate ) and as it is wider than our last boat it has plenty of room.

We are now on our way back to Lucinda at the southern end of the Hinchinbrook channel for the Barra & Grunter fishing and a bit of crabbing, we plan to stay about 3 months before moving north.
Cheers, Elizabeth & Robin
